Radiating lines were a common graphic device used by the Constructivists to draw attention or create a focal point. In this demo you will learn how to rotate a set of lines equally around a center point, divide a shape using pathfinder and you will have a strong graphic device at your disposal for future projects. 5 - Paint Drips (Running Time - 6:17)
Ever since graphic designers picked up on what urban street art was doing, drips seem to have been in vogue. Here I will show you how you can construct a drip. This is a cool exercise that can be accomplished with any version of Illustrator.

6 - Halftone Effect (Running Time - 6:06)
Halftones are used in printing to represent grays when printing with black. This effect shows how to give a piece of type the halftone treatment, great for a Pop Art type feel, a band logo or to represent the printing industry. Works with all the more recent versions of Illustrator.

Learn how to create a pattern brush that will make an elliptical gilt frame. Works with all the more recent versions of Illustrator.

8 - Convert Photograph to Line (Running Time - 6:47)
Great for T-shirt designs or poster graphics where you need a strong Plakatstil type look. Starting with a placed bitmap and applying a filter to simplify the photo you will then learn to Live Trace the Photo to create a bold graphic statement. Works with Illustrator CS2.

9 - Blur Type (Running Time - 6:16)
The font Blur, by influential British designer Neville Brody, inspired this demo. You will learn to rasterize a piece of type, apply a filter and use Live Trace to convert back to vector objects. Works with Illustrator CS2.

10 - Snake (Running Time - 8:20)
This demo is a basic drawing exercise. You will learn about the Zigzag filter converting a stroke to a filled object and combing shapes using Pathfinder. Works with most versions of Illustrator.

11 - 3D Bottle (Running Time - 5:09)
In this demo I will show you how to use the 3D effects in Illustrator to create a bottle and also to have it blend between a fully rendered bottle and a wire frame version. You will learn how to create an opacity mask. This is a fairly advanced demo. This tip works in Illustrator CS and CS2 only.

12 - Creating a Brush Stroke Border (Running Time - 4:02)
In this video I will show you how to create a mask for masking out extraneous parts of the illustration. Then how this can be shaped and an edge applied using a brush. Works the same in most versions of Illustrator.

13 - Fake 3D with Gradients (Running Time - 17:05)
Working with gradients to create pseudo cartoon 3D style illustrations. This demo shows how to make the radial gradient adhere to the shape of your ellipse. Works the same in most of the newer versions of the software.

14 - Color Overlay (Running Time - 2:45)
This is a technique I often times use at the end of an Illustration project to help to unify the color and to warm or cool the lighting. This can be subtle but effective. It can also be used to separate the foreground focus from the background. Works the same in any of the more recent versions of the program.

15 - Rainbow (Running Time - 2:17)
This demonstration shows how to expand a gradient into a set of objects. It also demonstrates a use for the "Envelope Distort -> Make with Warp" feature to bend shapes. This will work for any of the more recent versions of Illustrator.

16 - Perspective (Running Time - 7:39)
Using perspective create a tiled floor. This exercise covers the use of guides drawing shapes, using the Blend Tool and scaling toward a vanishing point. You can do this with most versions of Illustrator.

17 - Floating 3D Graphics (Running Time - 4:05)
This demo allows you to map a graphic on to a 3D shape such as a Sphere and then to hide the 3D shape so that you are left with just the graphic. Works in Illustrator CS and CS2.

18 - Distressed Type (Running Time - 5:16)
Using a photographic image converted to vector using Live Trace we will remove areas of a letterform using Pathfinder. For this exercise you will need Illustrator CS2.

This demo shows how to create the look of wood. It involves some drawing, Pathfinder Palette and application of filters. This can be done in any of the newer versions of Illustrator.
